30 October on BUSINESS CARDS, GRAPHICS, IDEAS
, a creative agency based in Caen France, may have just surpassed ingenuity with their Projet Béton or , translated in English, Project Concrete
– a set of business cards made out of concrete which they made for their company. Toying with the notion of scales, Murmure used sophisticated techniques to enhance the typography, roughness, and brutality of the material used to successfully create these impressive cards.
Concrete, a material that is so characteristic of our environment
, is highlighted by the use of communication media that is smaller and more refined. Each card, with one side embossed with the agency’s initial and the opposite side showing their contact details, comes in its own tiny box.
The concept is highly controversial
, as the idea of designing business cards made of concrete goes beyond one typical requirement – to be able to fit any wallet
. It was a risk to go ahead with the project, but a risk that proved to have been worth their efforts. Clients may not be able to carry these cards in their pockets, but it is unlikely that these will be disregarded. The cards are so artistic; they may be placed on top of work desks or shelves as an ornament.
No doubt, the concept is very clever. Although some might be uneasy to have their business cards made with the same material. After all, it is not going to be easy (or light) to bring a stack of these cards to a business convention.
A very young company which just debuted in December 2009, this team of four aims to establish their company as one that goes beyond the limits
between art, graphic design, and communication. Their creation of their very own business cards using an unlikely material is a strong manifestation of their identity. It is safe to say that Murmure has indeed distinguished themselves from competition
with this rather unusual use of concrete.
