Get into the Native American spirit with this new concept design for a canteen called Desert Spirit by Kailene Danae Falls.
In this innovative design, Falls pays homage to the Native American culture by making use of traditional Navajo patterns and texture. The design also appeals to the more environmentally conscious consumers through its use of recyclable materials.
Falls explains more on how the idea came about. "A blanket canteen is a common method of keeping water cold through evaporation. Despite most blanket canteens using a pattern reminiscent of Native American textiles, I had yet to see a package design taking advantage of this interesting imagery. Thus, I created the "Desert Spirit," using traditional Navajo patterns and textures on recyclable materials so that an eco-savvy consumer would be attracted to both the concept and the design."
This design came into fruition when Falls set out on a quest to “find an awesome product with an awful package and give it an awesome package.”
Falls is a graphics designer and illustrator who is currently studying Japanese and Graphics Design in the University of Minnesota and is set to graduate in Spring 2013. Check out more about Falls and her work at her website http://kailenedanae.com
